Remembrance Golf Tournament Donates $10K to Embrace Your Sisters

Remembrances keep loved ones we have lost in our lives today. That is what a

group of friends of Julia Claus Strom achieved while hosting a June 12 golf tournament at Lima Country Club. They donated $10K to Embrace Your Sisters (EYS).

The golf tournament was an 18-hole scramble with a buffet dinner, live music, and open bar.

Julia’s sister, Carolyn Claus Vasile is a breast cancer survivor; Julia passed away from stage 4

lung cancer, which metastasized. The tournament was held in honor of Carolyn and in Julia’s

memory. Carolyn shared, “If Julia would have selected a cause for the tournament to benefit, she would have chosen EYS.”

The golf tournament included raffles, t-shirts, 38 baskets, hole sponsors, and memorial

donations. Seventeen teams of four played in the tournament, including many friends and family members of Julia.

Several friends of Julia’s were champions of this remembrance and gathered at the Club to

present the check to EYS Board Member Marianne Sweet: Elizabeth Mosher went to Pittsford

Sutherland High School with Julia and was a best friend to Julia growing up; Margaret Dunn

was a friend of Julia and roommate of EYS Co-Founder Chrisann Philipson (who lost her two-

time battle with breast cancer in 2016); Lisa Cessna was also a friend and Co-Founder of EYS.

EYS Board Member Marianne Sweet shared, “Keeping the legacy of Julia alive, honoring her

sister Carolyn, and incorporating donated monies to help others going through breast cancer

struggles were the purposes of this tournament. Now, EYS can share this donation with many other people across our 13 county area who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are experiencing short-term financial hardship.”
